Library
The Faculty Library is a specialized branch of the Central Library of Istanbul University and consists of Information Desk, Reading room, periodicals section, dissertation room and technical transactions section. It operates on an open shelf system only during office hours.
The Library contains some 15.000 books focusing on law, political science, economics, accounting, management, environment sociology, philosophy, history, psychology, the European Union and social policy.
The library has subscriptions of 25 periodicals in Turkish and 17 foreign periodicals, and also owns 30 periodic Econ Lit CDs of the years 1969-2001. The foreign periodicals are purchased through the Istanbul University Central Library. The Library also has an archive of the Official Gazette of the Turkish Republic.
The users can reach data bases and electronic journals to which the Istanbul University Central Library has subscribed from the computers located in the Information section of the Library of Faculty of Political Sciences and also from the computers in the Computer Room located in the same floor as the Library. Access to both new and ancient data begins at the faculty of origin for each student and is furthered at the Central Library situated on the Beyazit Campus.
The Rare Masterpieces and Museum Department of the Central Library, affiliated to the Directorate of Libraries and Documentation is also situated in a historic building on this campus.
The Central Library started to be computer backed since 1994, and has been equipped to serve both on a nation wide and international basis. Thus the library can now cater for other research units, whether local or over seas.
Another point of interest is that the most important Ottoman documents can be found in libraries in close vicinity of the Faculty, such as the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives, the Atıf Efendi Library, the State Library of Beyazit, the Press Museum Library, the Fuad Köprülü Library and the Hakkı Tarık Us Library.
